Girls Guide to Martha’s Vineyard
Girls guide to Marthas Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard is a very popular summertime destination for people in Massachusetts but also worldwide. It is separated by six towns including Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, West Tisbury, Chilmark, and Aquinnah. I have visited Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. The island holds breathtaking beaches, amazing shopping, and epic restaurants. To me Martha’s Vineyard is the epitomize of a New England town with All- American charm. No wonder why it’s the place where several presidents summer!
Edgartown:
My favorite part of Martha’s Vineyard is Edgartown. It’s a preppy beach town with a quaintness and magic truly like no place else in the world. It’s the type of place where you get there and don’t want to leave. There are so many shops and I could stay on main street all day. Sea Legs was my personal favorite store, it basically was Revolve in real life and carried some of my favorite brands like Beach Riot and LoveShackFancy.
Oak Bluffs
Oak Bluffs feels like a younger and more laid back vibe than Edgartown. It encompasses colorful gingerbread houses, fun waterfront seafood restaurants like Nancy’s, countless ice cream shops, and a vintage carousel. Flying Horses Carousel is actually the oldest operating carousel in America!
Vineyard Haven
Vineyard haven used to be a dry town but now holds amazing restaurants and great shopping. It is also home to the original Black Dog cafe. We went to some amazing restaurants during our time here that I highly recommend
Fish is a fantastic seafood restaurant serving Mexican style foods like tacos, bowls, and quesadillas. The coastal decor inside gave off California vibes and the outdoor patio with a view of the water was the perfect spot for lunch. I got the shrimp quesadilla because the waiter told us that was his favorite and it was amazing!
The Attic The Attic was appropriately located in an attic with a view of the coastal town of Vineyard Haven. I ordered the Attic Salad and it was one of the best salads I’ve ever had! If you have ever heard of Sur in LA you know the goat cheese balls famously known from Vanderpump Rules. This salad had fried goat cheese that tasted exactly like Sur’s goat cheese balls and I ate every single bite. The atmosphere here felt a bit vintage with the furniture and antique lamps and they even were playing old school movies.
Ferry to MV:
You access the island of Martha’s Vineyard by startinf at two different towns on Cape Cod. One option is Woods Hole and the other is Hyannis. I have stayed the night at both of these towns and think they are both worth it to stay in for a night or two to get the feeling of both Cape Cod and the Islands!
Woods Hole
Woods Hole is a small picturesque village within the town of Falmouth. The whimsical village of Woods Hole holds waterfront restaurants, locally sourced shops and markets, galleries, and of course fabulous boutiques. When visiting Woods Hole I would recommend going to Pie in the sky cafe for your morning coffee run! It was so packed on a Saturday morning but the coffee and smoothies were amazing and well worth the wait. There is also a lot of restaurants on the water in Woods Hole and a cute street to explore. It’s a small little place to explore before you take the ferry over to Martha’s Vineyard which is only 45 minutes long and typically cheaper than the ferry from Hyannis.
Hyannis
Hyannis is the other port where you can go to take the ferry to the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. If you head to Hyannis I would definitely recommend checking out the restaurant Pain D’Avignon. This French restaurant has options to order at the counter coffee and fresh pastries that are cooked daily onsite. We actually got to get a behind the scenes tour of the restaurant and saw the baked goods being prepared by the bakers! We started with a baguette for the table and vanilla oat milk lattes which brought me joy. Next to us was a piano with long stem vintage candles and a beautiful painting of cowboys on the beach. I adored the vibe of this place.
A trip to the Cape and Islands is never a bad idea and I cannot wait to come back and explore more! Read my Guide to Nantucket here for another taste of New England charm.
