Girls Guide to the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. It's one of those places that, that feels even more magical when you finally arrive than it ever did in the photos and videos you’ve seen online. I was truly in awe from the second we arrived and I know it’s a place I'll keep coming back to. With its charming seaside towns, breathtaking cliffside views, colorful villas along the coastline, stunning beaches and historic architecture, you’ll be feeling grateful you’re here at every corner.
Positano is the most famous town on the Amalfi Coast, and to me, it’s the most iconic. Perched above the sea with stunning views, this beautiful town is an incredibly popular destination and an absolute must-visit. Staying in Positano is a bucket list item for good reason and the experience of waking up to the picturesque cliffside views, with pastel-colored buildings was unforgettable.
Where to Stay
We spent 5 nights at an adorable property Casa Bon Bon. Casa Bon Bon in Positano is the most perfect stay for your Amalfi Coast trip. Located centrally just a 10 minute walk from town and beach with panoramic views of the city. The property is a former home of an Italian family and showcases authentic Italian charm in every detail. The home is spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a large kitchenette, living room and bright veranda with two terraces. The property owner set us up with a car service that brought us straight from the Naples airport to the property and it was on a street where we just had to take one short block of stairs down to. When you stay at many hotels in Positano you’re forced to lug your luggage up many steps so this was an ideal situation.
When to Come
My biggest advice for your Amalfi Coast trip is to come during shoulder season opposed to peak season. Shoulder season is considered from April to June and from September to late October. We came in mid-October and the weather was perfect and it was far less crowded than it is in peak season. The days were warm and sunny and it only rained on one of the days we were there. When traveling to Amalfi Coast you spend a lot of time wandering around so it’s much more enjoyable to come when it is not super hot. In mid-October the water is also still warm enough to swim in and enjoy! Enjoying a dream destination with less crowds is the best and you’ll have better photo opportunities and an easier time getting a reservation at that restaurant you’ve been dying to check out. We spent our time in Amalfi Coast soaking up every moment of our 5 day trip and below I’ve got you covered on where to explore and the best things to do in the Amalfi Coast.
Ciao Vintage Italy Experience
Driving around the Positano coast in a vintage car was a pinch me moment and a true highlight of my trip- maybe my life! We rented our car through Ciao Vintage Italy and a lovely local named Enrico drove us around to see the prettiest views and of course take a million pictures. He was so kind and accommodating and drove us around in the iconic Fiat 500 showing us all the best lookouts. I will recommend this experience to anyone headed to this spectacular place.
Shopping
My favorite thing to do in the world is to go to local businesses and authentic shops in the places I travel to! One of the best stores we came across was CB Positano. I had seen girls come here on Instagram before and I was so excited to see how close it was to our airbnb and that their was not only one but two shop locations! I came in here 10 times during our trip because it genuinely looks like where I go to dream and I was in awe every time. I bought the cutest quilted pink mini tote bag that I have been using everyday since I have purchased it. They also have many colorful ceramic shops, handmade leather goods, fun fashion items and home goods that you will not want to leave without.
Head To the beach
A must do in Positano- if not only for the iconic Instagram picture opp- is to hit a beach club and go for a swim. There are many beach clubs that you pay to spend the day at as well as restaurants along the ocean if you don’t feel the need to be on the beach.
Take a Day Trip
It’s so simple to take a ferry to surrounding areas from Positano! We took day trips to Capri and Amalfi town. Capri was a sight to see and had more of a party vibe to me, starting with limoncello on the ferry ride there at 10am and colorful taxi’s vibing to party music all day long. One thing you must do while you’re here is take the chair lift up to the top of the Island for breathtaking views. There is even a restaurant at the top where you can order a limoncello and local almond cake.
Capri
Amalfi
Amalfi town was more of a historic sight seeing spot where we visited the Duomo di Sant'Andrea, Amalfi’s famous cathedral. On the way home from Amalfi we stopped at the bridge Fiordo di Furore. This spot is known to be a hidden gem but has gotten quite popular, it’s extremely picturesque and a perfect and FREE place to swim and beach. To note: almost all Amalfi Coast beaches charge you.
Restaurants:
Chez Black Positano - My favorite restaurant of the trip was this fun beachfront spot with an amazing vibe and to die for atmosphere. Located right by the ferry port it’s the perfect dinner spot to go to after going on a day trip! We had the best time here drinking limoncello spritz’s and eating the 🤍 pizza and splendid pastas.
Il Fornillo- This restaurant felt like a hidden gem and was recommended by a local! Enrico our driver for Ciao Vintage Italy gave us this recommendation and we all loved it. This charming spot was further to the top of Positano which made it have more of a tranquil atmosphere with less crowds and more of a local feel. I ordered the paccheri bolognese and it was my favorite pasta of the trip.
Amalfi Coast Things to note:
Be prepared to walk and climb a ton of steps! Getting up and town from town to our Airbnb was a short but mighty walk. It is quite a workout but at each pause you get to take in the splendid view which makes it the best workout possible. You can of course taxi all around if you’re traveling with someone who doesn’t want to walk, taxis are just a bit expensive.
It is overall a very expensive destination- but I promise it is SO worth it.
Almost all Amalfi Coast beaches will charge you to swim.
Ferry prices range day to day, sometimes can be cheap at 10 euros other times more expensive.
You can take a bus to get here from the Naples airport but I recommend using a car service that is typically around $160 for 2 people and $260 for 4 people.
What to Wear:
I opted to match the city with bright colorful dresses. I find dressing for a trip to be the most exciting part so if you need any guidance shop my Amalfi Coast outfits here!
